Fernando Marroquin

Goshen College Spanish professor convicted of sexually abusing teenager

In 1998, Fernando Marroquin (b. 1961) pleaded guilty to sexually misconduct with a minor. He was arrested and charged for molesting a 14-year-old girl when she was babysitting in his home. At the time, Marroquin was an assistant professor of Spanish at Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana, where he had taught since 1993. Goshen College reportedly placed Marroquin on administrative leave after his arrest.

The court sentenced Marroguin to 3 years in prison with 2-1/2 years suspended, to be served as reporting probation, and he was required to register as a sex offender.

In 2018, the court granted Marroquin’s motion to be removed from the Indiana sex offender registry. Two months later, the court reviewed a state motion to correct an error and then reversed its previous order, once again requiring Marroquin to be listed on the sex offender registry. In 2019, the court denied Marroquin’s motion to remove the requirement to register as a sex offender, and he remains on the Indiana sex offender registry.

In 2024, Marroquin was listed as a member of the preaching team at LifeSpring Church in Goshen, Indiana.
